This page outlines various ways to use the pack, including use case examples.

Administrators can refer to the Configuration guide: Driver compliance to set up and customize the installed content.

The Driver compliance library pack provides actionable visibility to help maintain driver compliance across your device landscape. It helps you:

  • Prevent compatibility, security, and hardware issues that cause incidents and tickets.

  • Monitor pending driver, firmware, and BIOS updates across Dell, HP, and Lenovo devices.

  • Take action using vendor-specific remote actions for driver updates.

This pack includes dashboards and preconfigured remote actions to automate updates and reduce manual effort. You may uncover further use cases and troubleshooting paths in your environment.

Use the library pack content for the following purposes.

Visibility

The Driver Compliance – Dell, Driver Compliance – HP, and Driver Compliance – Lenovo live dashboards are your main visibility tools. They show pending driver, BIOS, and firmware updates reported by:

  • Dell Update Package

  • HP Image Assistant

  • Lenovo Thin Installer Utility

Each dashboard highlights:

  • Devices requiring critical or recommended updates.

  • Devices that failed or skipped scans.

  • Breakdown of update types by urgency.

Access the dashboards via Live dashboards in the Applications module.

Advanced troubleshooting and remediation

To investigate driver and firmware status in depth, use these data-gathering remote actions:

  • Get Dell pending BIOS firmware and driver updates: Retrieves Dell device update status and classifies updates as critical, security, recommended, or optional.

  • Get HP pending BIOS firmware and driver updates: Retrieves HP device update status and classifies updates as critical, recommended, or routine.

  • Get Lenovo pending firmware BIOS and driver updates: Retrieves Lenovo update status and classifies updates by the same categories.

These remote actions populate your dashboards. Make sure they are scheduled regularly.

To act on driver updates without user disruption, use execution remote actions:

  • Invoke install Dell pending driver updates

  • Invoke install HP pending driver updates

  • Invoke install Lenovo pending driver updates

Each action uses vendor tools to install the most appropriate driver version for each device. Direct service intervention is usually needed for BIOS and firmware updates. Use dashboard KPIs to flag devices and raise service requests.

These data-gathering remote actions populate the live dashboard and should already be scheduled. You can query the results by investigating KPIs from the Live dashboard or from your own investigations.

Use cases

In addition to the relevant use cases covered below, you may uncover other troubleshooting scenarios specific to your environment.

Identifying areas of improvement

Each manufacturer’s dashboard is structured into three main views:

  • Devices requiring immediate action – update recommended as soon as possible.

  • Devices requiring non-critical updates – no urgency, but attention is needed.

  • Scan status – flags where update scans failed or didn’t complete.

Updating pending drivers – Dell devices

Use the Driver compliance – Dell dashboard to spot Dell devices needing updates. Then, run Invoke install Dell pending driver updates to resolve issues. Review the following KPIs:

  1. Devices pending driver critical updates

  2. Devices pending driver security updates

  3. Devices pending driver recommended updates

  4. Devices pending driver optional updates

Updating pending BIOS or firmware – Dell devices

Review BIOS and firmware KPIs in the same dashboard to identify affected devices. Export the list for use in your service management platform to schedule manual updates.
