# Usage guide: Adopt - Workday essentials

The **Adopt - Workday essentials** library pack enables new hires to:

* Navigate the Workday interface, and understand the layout, menus, and key action areas.
* Change their personal email address.
* Update their home contact information to help HR stay in touch.
* Update their emergency contact information to ensure workplace safety and compliance.

### **Visibility**

#### **Updating emergency contacts**

For workplace security and compliance it is essential that HR have emergency contact information on file for each employee, and that this information is correct and up to date.\
As a new hire, this information must be entered into the Workday system but it may not be obvious how or where to do so.

From the [**Adopt**](https://docs.nexthink.com/platform/user-guide/adopt) menu interface in Workday:

1. Click on the Adopt menu and choose the guide "Add or change emergeny contacts" from the list.

2. The guide will proceed, guiding the employee step by step through the process.

3. At the form entry stage, the on-screen elements can be edited and saved without disturbing the flow of the guide.

#### **Changing your preferred name**

An employee's preferred name refers to the name that they choose to use when interacting with colleagues, clients, and individuals in their personal lives, which may differ from their legal name. This can include, but is not limited to, a shortened version of the employee's first name (e.g., Joe vs Joseph).

As a new hire, it may not be obvious how or where to change this information in Workday and it is better that this is changed as early as possible to avoid confusion.

1. Click on the Adopt menu and choose the guide "Change preferred name" from the list.
