# Triggering a remote action manually with Finder (classic)

Nexthink Finder is a Windows-only desktop application whose functionality is now available within the Nexthink web interface. Nexthink can now be used directly from a browser and most functions no longer require an additional desktop application.

To manually trigger the execution of a remote action on a device from Finder, the following conditions must be met:

* The profile of the user must either:
  * Allow editing of remote actions.
  * Include the remote action in one of its roles.
* The remote action must:
  * Allow manual triggering.
* The device must be:
  * Running an operating system capable of executing the script assigned to the remote action.
  * Part of the set of devices on which the remote action allows manual triggering.

To quickly identify the remote actions that allow manual triggering, Finder adds a small hand on top of their characteristic rocket icon in the list of **Remote actions** in the accordion.

## From a list view <a href="#triggeringaremoteactionmanuallywithfinder-classic-fromalistview" id="triggeringaremoteactionmanuallywithfinder-classic-fromalistview"></a>

To manually trigger the execution of a remote action from the list of results of an investigation on devices or the list view of a device category:

1. Select a device or a set of devices from the list.
   * Drag the cursor or use the **Ctrl** or **Shift** keys to select multiple devices.
   * By default, remote actions can be manually triggered on a single device only. Explicitly enable a remote action to be triggered on multiple devices when [creating the remote action](/platform/user-guide/remote-actions/remote-actions-in-finder-classic/creating-a-remote-action-with-finder-classic.md#creatingaremoteactionwithfinder-classic-procedure).
2. Right-click your selection.
3. Choose **Remote actions** from the menu. A list with the available remote actions appears.
4. Click the name of the desired remote action.
   * If you have selected multiple devices, a warning message appears asking for confirmation. Click **Yes** to proceed.

## From the device view <a href="#triggeringaremoteactionmanuallywithfinder-classic-fromthedeviceview" id="triggeringaremoteactionmanuallywithfinder-classic-fromthedeviceview"></a>

In the [device view](/platform/user-guide/using-finder-classic/visualizing-system-activity-with-finder-classic/graphically-observing-the-activity-of-users-and-devices-with-finder-classic.md) of Finder, manually trigger remote actions from:

* The device icon on the top-left corner of the device view.
* The links to remote actions in the score tabs.

Manually triggering a remote action from the device icon in the top-left corner of the device view is very similar to triggering a remote action from a list view:

1. Right-click the device icon.
2. Choose **Remote actions** from the menu. A list with the available remote actions appears.
3. Click the name of the desired remote action.

To manually trigger a remote action from a score tab in the device view, the score tab must include proper [documentation with links to remote actions](/platform/user-guide/experience-optimization-classic/rating-devices-and-users-with-scores-classic/documenting-scores-classic.md#documentingscores-classic-addinglinkstoremoteactions):

1. Click the score tab to select it.
2. Look for an appropriate link to a remote action (a link preceded by a rocket icon) in the documentation of the score.
   * If needed, click a subscore that provides its own documentation. Only documented subscores are clickable.
3. Click the link to the remote action.

## From the Start page <a href="#triggeringaremoteactionmanuallywithfinder-classic-fromthestartpage" id="triggeringaremoteactionmanuallywithfinder-classic-fromthestartpage"></a>

When searching in the Start page in Finder, a list of devices may appear on the right-hand side of the window as a result of the search. You can directly trigger a remote action on any of the devices that appear in the list of results:

1. Right-click the name of device.
2. Choose **Remote actions** from the menu. A list with the available remote actions appears.
3. Click the name of the desired remote action.
