Nexthink web interface

Supported operating systems

  • Windows

  • macOS

Other combinations of browsers and operating systems may be suitable, but they have not been thoroughly tested. Some graphical user interface elements may appear unusable or disproportionate in size.

Supported browsers

Nexthink supports all versions, up to one year old, of the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome

  • Microsoft Edge

  • Mozilla Firefox

  • Apple Safari

Known limitation

For Safari, the browser behavior with keyboard navigation may prevent access to content or change the way to access part of the user interface.

Nexthink Collector

This section offers lists of versions of operating systems (OS) supported by Collector. Nexthink might remove support for some of these operating systems around the same time the OS vendors drop support for specific versions, so no longer provide fixes or updates. The latest version of Collector always supports by default future OS versions as soon as they reach general availability.

Windows

Supported versions

  • Desktop

    • Windows 11

    • Windows 10, 64bit

  • Server

    • Windows Server 2022, Standard, Datacenter, and Azure Datacenter editions

    • Windows Server 2019, Standard and DataCenter editions

    • Windows Server 2016, Standard, Essential, and DataCenter editions.

      • Installation options: desktop experience and core.

Prerequisites

  • The targeted device must directly or indirectly reach the Nexthink cloud platform through the network.

  • To install Collector using their MSI, the Windows installer (msiexec) version 3.0 or higher is required.

Known limitation

Microsoft is ending support for some of the elements used by the Collector Panel extension. That feature will progressively stop working and will soon be fully removed from the set of components available.

Compatibility with the cloud platform

The latest version of the platform accepts data from the latest version of Collector and all its previous versions.

Support for Windows ARM-based PCs

Windows Collector from version 21.8 runs natively on PCs powered by ARM64 processors.

macOS

Supported versions

  • macOS 15.x Sequoia

  • macOS 14.x Sonoma

  • macOS 13.x Ventura

Prerequisites

The targeted device must directly or indirectly reach the Nexthink instance through the network.

Nexthink Collector installs a software agent relying on the Apple Endpoint Security framework, so the nxtsvc binary requires full disk access (more information).

Compatibility with the cloud platform

The latest version of the platform accepts traffic from the latest version of Collector and all its previous versions.

Support for Apple Silicon

The Mac Collector from version 6.30.4.9 runs natively on devices powered by Apple Silicon, the new architecture for Mac devices available since November 2020. Collector version 6.30.1.7 is the first one to support Apple Silicon.

Linux

Supported on all thin clients running IGEL OS version 11.x.

Known limitation

Only the CPU, memory and Wi-Fi signal strength are reported.

Support policy

Nexthink Collector versions are supported up to 6 months after their initial release. Depending on the type of issue identified, the customers might still be asked to upgrade to the latest version.

Nexthink browser extension

The browser extension contains Collector components. It is important that the native messaging in the browser is not blocked and the extension is allowed to be launched. Refer to the Google Chrome Native Messaging documentation for more details.

The Nexthink browser extension supports Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox. Refer to the Installing the web browser extension documentation for more information. Note that the browser extension supports browser versions up to one year old.

Nexthink Finder (classic)

Nexthink Finder is a Windows-only desktop application whose functionality is now available within the Nexthink web interface. Nexthink can now be used directly from a browser and most functions no longer require an additional desktop application.

Supported operating systems

  • Windows 11

  • Windows 10 - 64 and 32 bits

End of support for Internet Explorer 11

As of January 1, 2021, Nexthink ended support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) or Microsoft Edge Legacy to access the content provided by the web interface. The user interface might not function correctly when using Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge Legacy.

This does not affect the ability of Nexthink Collector to monitor the activity or web traffic of Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge Legacy.

What does this mean?

Users of Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge Legacy might find that the web interface does not work correctly or at all. Microsoft Edge Legacy is any version of Microsoft Edge which uses the EdgeHTML browser engine. This was deprecated in favor of a Chromium-based browser engine as of version 79.0.309 of Microsoft Edge.

As an important distinction, this change does not affect the ability of Nexthink to monitor Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge Legacy activity on endpoints.

Why is Nexthink removing support for Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge Legacy?

In 2015, Microsoft released the Edge browser. Internet Explorer 11 no longer receives major updates to support functionality that allows modern and complex web applications such as Nexthink to work. In January 2020, Microsoft Edge received an upgrade to use a Chromium-based browser engine, and legacy versions no longer receive major updates. As a result, there is an increasing gap between the capabilities of Internet Explorer 11/Microsoft Edge Legacy and other browsers.

An increasingly large amount of effort is required to make the web interface work with Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge Legacy, an effort that could be better spent developing useful features, reliability and functionality that Nexthink users expect.

Who is affected?

Anyone who uses Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge Legacy to access Nexthink Portal content.

Who should I contact if I have questions?

Contact Nexthink Support or your customer success manager for more information.
