OS Stability, Compliance, and Security

Overview

The OS Stability, Compliance and Security pack enables a single environment where the critical aspect of keeping Operating Systems up to date with security patches and migrating to newer versions when released by the manufacturer can be monitored, identify devices with an unsupported operating system that are a risk within your environment and monitor the security, health and compliance of devices.

Problem

Managing multiple OS’ in your organization is a real challenge, requiring constant OS updates, device migrations, and system patching across thousands of devices.

You have to jump between different management tools (Intune, SCCM, JAMF…etc) to keep control, but even then, you face too many “blind spots” from faulty agents keeping devices hidden from your management servers. These devices stop receiving critical updates or patches, and when you find out, it's too late as the performance, compatibility, or—even worse—the security of the device has been compromised.

This challenge adds unnecessary pressure and workload to both the IT teams in charge of the OS environment and the Service Desk teams who must deal with related compliance issues, as well as putting your organization under serious security risks from potential attacks.

Solution

Access an all-in-one, real-time view of the overall compliance state of your OS landscape, combining both Windows and macOS, and across their different versions. You can complement your current OS Stability, Compliance and Security tools to keep visibility over every device agent’s status and availability to avoid costly blind spots.

Cross-check the compatibility, stability, and versioning of OS patches and updates across different manufacturers to identify any devices at risk before they can become a problem for you and your organization.

Keep a finger on the pulse of your OS environment to avoid unnecessary workload, security threats, and employee frustrations.

Key Features:

  • Real-time visibility over agent status on both macOS and Windows devices

  • 5 real-time dashboards to monitor the performance, stability, and overall summary of the OS landscape, as well as Windows and macOS update compliance.

  • Filters to segment data across location, platform, OS type, and OS build

  • DEX scores to identify and drill down into the source of application or hardware issues

  • OS versioning compatibility cross-checking

How the pack works

This OS Stability, Compliance and Security pack is used for the monitoring and maintenance of your existing Windows and macOS estate. For Windows, it assists in deploying the monthly security patches (Quality Updates) released by Microsoft and the (currently) yearly release of the next version of Windows. For macOS, it assists in monitoring the supported versions and encourages the IT team to contact any employees who have yet to upgrade their device to the latest version.

L2\L3 teams can use the OS Stability, Compliance and Security pack to work alongside and enhance the currently used management tools (SCCM, JAMF etc)

Pack Structure

The pack has been divided into sections or accessible via tabs to allow quick access to the area of concern.

Several widgets within the dashboard return results as a whole which means they contain the data for both Windows and macOS. If a more targeted view is required, i.e. if the necessary details to be viewed are for the US, in Los Angeles and for Windows 11 only, then the filters supplied can be utilised to narrow down to the specifics required.

A timepicker within the pack can be used to view the results over a desired timeframe. However, some widgets require a static value (for example, the total amount of devices within your estate) so these widgets are set to ignore the global time picker.

Dashboards

Summary

The Summary dashboard gives you a brief view of the devices and operating systems within the estate.

  • Windows

    • Windows devices with unsupported OS

      • The total count of Windows devices that require to be urgently upgraded to a supported Windows version.

    • Windows devices with no Anti-virus

      • The count of Windows devices with no recognised Anti-virus program. These should be investigated urgently as these devices leave the company exposed to a possible virus attack.

    • Windows devices with no firewall

      • The count of Windows devices with no recognised local firewall program. Within an office network environment, these devices may not cause concern as they would likely be protected by the company firewall anyway. However, once they leave the office network then, they become susceptible to attack and could possibly be hacked. A local firewall is recommended to protect from this.

    • Total Windows devices

      • The total number of Windows devices within the estate. The global time picker is ignored.

    • Total active Windows devices

      • The total number of Windows devices that have been active (i.e. had some kind of execution event) within the time specified within the global time picker

    • Windows versions

      • A bar graph showing the number of devices per different versions of Windows installed within the estate.

  • macOS

Compliance

The Compliance dashboard gives you a view of the devices with security concerns or has versions of an operating system that the manufacturer no longer supports, and will therefore not receive security updates. Apple only supports the current released version of their OS plus the two previous versions, but unlike Microsoft, Apple place an emphasis on the end user to update and to keep updated the operating system on their device. It is therefore vital that any user that allows their device to fall out from within this scope is contacted to carry out the upgrade urgently, and assistance is provided to assist in carrying out the upgrade
