Analyzing the adoption of web applications

The Digital Adoption Insights dashboard enables you to measure and enhance employee engagement with web applications. Know where adoption gaps exist, investigate further, and take targeted actions, such as deploying in-app guidance with Nexthink Adopt.

Unlike the dashboards in the Application Experience module mainly focused on performance—such as Overview, Performance, and Benchmark—this dashboard centers on adoption behavior.

Access the Digital Adoption Insights dashboard by opening Applications from the main menu and selecting Application Adoption from the navigation panel.

The Digital Adoption Insights dashboard enables you to analyze and respond to adoption patterns within your digital environment using data organized across five tabs:

  • Applications: Identify which applications are widely adopted and which need adoption support.

  • Employees: Discover which user groups engage most or least with digital tools.

  • Pages: Detect the key pages with most or least page views.

  • Transactions: Verify whether employees are successfully completing digital workflows.

  • Page view insights: Track adoption trends over time and measure improvement.

If needed, filter the data display on each tab for dimensions, such as Web application or Country, to refine your analysis and focus your adoption strategy.

Refer to the Filtering dashboard data section on this page.

Identifying adoption priorities with the Applications tab

The Applications tab helps you identify where adoption is strong or lagging across your organization. It highlights engagement levels to guide where to focus enablement and in-app guidance efforts.

  • Spot adoption leaders and laggards by reviewing which are the:

    • Most used applications: usage time of more than 1 hour per employee.

    • Occasionally used applications: usage time of more than 10 minutes but less than 1 hour per employee.

    • Rarely used application: usage time of less than 10 minutes per employee.

  • Quantify engagement by measuring Total and Usage Time per employee for each application.

Investigate underused applications to understand their infrequent use, as some applications may naturally have low usage rates due to their specific purpose or technical limitations.

The Web application usage metrics provide hints on how you should optimize software investments.

Discovering engagement patterns with the Employees tab

The Employees tab enables you to analyze how different employee groups are adopting web applications, shifting focus to real user engagement.

  • Identify usage behavior by measuring the Total employees using web applications and the duration of their usage: more than an hour or less than 10 minutes. Additionally, visualize the Usage time per employee to identify trends over time.

  • Compare adoption across teams using engagement Breakdowns by Department, Organizational unit, Entity, or Job title to optimize software adoption strategies based on location and role-specific needs.

Certain tools might inherently experience low engagement due to their niche use or technical constraints. For other tools, consider implementing adoption strategies such as in-app guides or awareness campaigns to boost engagement.

For a more effective analysis, apply filters at the top of the dashboard to focus on a specific application.

Uncovering friction points with the Pages tab

The Pages tab helps you pinpoint where adoption gaps occur within browser web applications. By examining page-level activity, you can identify potential pages for deploying additional guidance or design optimizations.

  • Review the trend of Page views versus their related number of employees to understand adoption correlations. Check the Total and Average usage time of the related application pages.

  • Check the Key pages dashboard section for hotspots in web applications where users spend the most time on or access/view most frequently.

    • Configured Key Pages: Number of tracked key pages.

    • Unique URLs: Total distinct web addresses accessed.

    • Tagged/Untagged URLs: Distinguishes between URLs classified as key pages and those that are not.

In addition, use the line chart to visualize and compare URLs with a configured key page versus URLs without a key page (untagged).

  • View Page view breakdowns by Department, Organizational unit, Entity, or Job title to map relevant application pages to specific groups and locations.

  • Leverage Other breakdowns by reviewing the Pages and URLs with most page views and Untagged URLs with most page views to reveal new pages that might need tracking.

Examining user engagement on specific pages helps pinpoint tasks or processes that may be causing significant friction in company processes.

For a more effective analysis, apply filters at the top of the dashboard to focus on a specific application.

Detecting procedure inefficiencies with the Transactions tab

The Transactions tab enables you to evaluate how effectively employees are completing in-app procedures and digital tasks. Rather than focusing on technical metrics, this tab also hints at behavioral aspects of adoption.

  • Review productivity by measuring the volume of Total completed transactions and Completed transactions per employee, across various applications, and determine how adoption initiatives and app technical performances influence completion rates over time.

  • Visualize the behavioral and app-performance trend over time, comparing the Total versus Completed transactions within the context of the number of employees.

  • Locate process bottlenecks using Breakdowns by Department, Organizational unit, Entity, or Job title to identify teams and branches where employees are not completing critical tasks. Redesign the related problematic procedures as needed.

For a more effective analysis, apply filters at the top of the dashboard to focus on a specific application.

Tracking adoption progress with the Page view Insights tab

The Page view insights tab enables you to track the long-term evolution of web application adoption and engagement trends. This tab provides a longitudinal view of how your web application initiatives are performing.

  • Monitor adoption growth by visualizing the total of web Page views trends over a fixed 90-day period.

  • Compare engagement by location or team with Breakdowns and technical insights into browsing behavior. The system highlights dropdown fields that have outliers, for example: 'Ethernet' is 13.8 times higher than the next closest value.

Changes in page view volume can indicate correlations with campaigns, guide deployments, performance enhancements, or feature releases.

For a more effective analysis, apply filters at the top of the dashboard to focus on a specific application.

Filtering dashboard data

Apply filters to focus the data on a specific application. You can filter by:

  • Timeframe: From the upper right side of the dashboard, select a time period from which the dashboard displays relevant data.

    • If you filter by a period longer than the last 7 days, you can adapt granularity by week and day.

  • Adoption breakdowns with listed granular breakdowns for dimensions, such as Web application or Country, to refine your analysis and focus your adoption strategy.
