DEX Score Installation And Configuration

  • The content of this document is for versions 2.0.0.0 or later of the DEX Score library pack.

  • The DEX V2.1 pack has been configured to support macOS.

Overview

This page contains information about the Digital Experience (DEX) Score library pack. It focuses on the setup of the library pack by describing:

  1. How to install the pack (including how to manage a migration from a version 1 to a version 2 of the pack)

  2. How to configure the pack

Installation of the Library pack

You can install the DEX score from the library web site.

In case you have already the remote worker category installed in your environment from another pack, select skip in the wizard to prevent overwriting your configuration.

Installation in an environment with DEX Score V1

For a migration from the DEX Score V1 to a more recent version, follow these instructions.

Unless the DEX Score V1 has been actively used and you want to keep the history, you can delete all the DEX score V1 folders (scores, metrics, categories, campaign). However, prior to the deletion of the content from the Finder, copy the configuration you did with the DEX score V1 (i.e., business apps) to be potentially used during the configuration phase of the DEX score V2.

If you want to keep the data history, please proceed as follow:

  • The DEX Score V2 has different names and UIDs for the Nexthink objects than the DEX Score V1 (e.g., ScoreDefs, metrics, categories, etc.) and hence can be installed in an environment where version 1 is already installed

  • However, we recommend to only have one of the DEX Score versions enabled at a time in your environment for performance reason. You can disable scores and metrics.

  • DEX Score V2 has different folder names than V1 to simplify the separation of content in the object trees of Finder

Remark Please be careful with any other packs installed in your environment using DEX score V1 objects such as metrics pointing to DEX score V1 Scoredefs. You will need to update them to use the DEX score V2

Configuration of the pack

Corporate Office suite

  • Microsoft’s Office 365 is configured by default in the categories “DEX – Domain” & “DEX – Binary”. Please note that you will need to edit the Keywords “File Sharing Program” and “Document management solution” in the “DEX – Domain” category to specify the proper Office365 tenant

  • If you want to configure another Office suite, please edit the corresponding keywords of “DEX – Domain” & “DEX – Binary” with the information of your Office suite. Do not edit the name of the keywords, as it used as references in different locations.

  • You can customize the name of the applications in the portal interface

Business applications

  • You can monitor business apps through the DEX score V2. To do so, edit the corresponding keywords (webApp0, …, DesktopApp0, …) in the categories “DEX – Domain” & “DEX – Binary” with the details of the business apps

  • Do not edit the name of the keywords, as it used as references in different locations.

  • You can customize the name of the applications in the portal interface

(Security) agents

  • A new feature of the DEX Score V2 is the monitoring of the (security) agents impact on DEX

  • To add agents to be monitored by the DEX score V2, edit keywords in the category “DEX – Agents”

  • Add a keyword per solution you would like to monitor, the name you will define for the keyword will appear in a breakdown per agent on the Device dashboard on portal

Remote workers and office workers

  • It uses the same category as the one of the Remote Employee Experience pack; Remote Worker vs Office Worker Device

  • This category will tag devices as remote based on their IP address. It works on the principle that ranges for workers that are on-site ("Office-Based Worker") is defined and automatically detected, with any other address considered being remote from the environment and so defining the worker as a "Remotely Connected Worker". To successfully use this category, please define the ranges that the targeted organization uses when employees are present at the office, i.e. not remote. It is important that the "Last Local IP Address" subnet ranges match the IP configuration for your business.

    • So, for example, if you use a 10.x.y.z address for your internal addressing when in the Office, ensure this is set in this category. It is pre-populated with 10.x.y.z and 172.16.y.z as these are commonly used for internal addressing when at work. TIP: you can also use "not in subnetwork" to exclude particular ranges that might be within a larger range.

  • Do not edit the name of the keywords, as it used as references in different locations.

Virtualization type

  • This category is used to tag the following types of devices: Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Session-Based computing (SBC) and Non-virtual devices

  • Update the auto-tagging conditions for each of the keywords (e.g., based on IP ranges, device names, etc.)

  • Do not edit the name of the keywords, as it used as references in different locations.

Engage campaign “DEX - Employee Satisfaction”

Make sure to modify the campaign exactly the way it is described below. Making additional modifications such as a change of campaign UUID, name, and other, may have a negative impact on the DEX score computation and Experience Optimization features.

  • Customize the identity of the sender

  • Configure if the notification needs to be skipped or not

  • Make sure to target the right people. This can be done through an investigation

  • Enter the name of the company in the 1st question

If needed, reach out to Nexthink Professional Services or certified partners to fine-tune the configuration of the campaign. The continuous improvement feature ensures that by randomly addressing a subset of the total employee population each day, the number of employees contacted daily is minimized while ensuring that the number of responses yields a meaningful, representative average.

Internal and external domains

  • The Productivity applications score evaluates the browsing experience by differentiating between accesses to internal and to external domains.

  • To ensure a proper distinction, internal networks and domains in the Web Console needs to be specified (if not done already) as explained here.

  • This configuration is specific to each Engine. If there are several Engines installed, the internal networks and domains should be set for each one of them.

Setup Nexthink services for business and productivity apps

  • It is strongly recommended to set up Nexthink services for the applications monitored by the DEX Score (productivity apps, business apps, etc.)

  • This will support better and faster troubleshooting of issues raised by the DEX score regarding services

Enable Application start time

Application start time is disabled by default for new Collector installations. More information about how to enable and configure it is available here.
