# Getting started with Live Dashboards

Build and maintain your own dashboards using the Live Dashboards builder with numerous widget options and powerful Nexthink query language (NQL) that allows you to get the most up-to-date data for analysis, visualization and drill-down purposes.

## Accessing Live Dashboards <a href="#gettingstartedwithlivedashboards-accessinglivedashboards" id="gettingstartedwithlivedashboards-accessinglivedashboards"></a>

To access Live Dashboards:

1. Select **Live Dashboards** from the main navigation menu.
2. Select an existing dashboard from under the [Private or Shared tabs](https://docs.nexthink.com/user-guide/live-dashboards/pages/QH4nW3Uo7WJTXlrIZCvj#live-dashboards-navigation-menu-private-vs.-shared-tabs) in the navigation panel, each sorted by tags.

{% hint style="info" %}
Refer to [Managing Live Dashboards](/user-guide/live-dashboards/managing-live-dashboards.md) documentation to create, design, edit, duplicate, import and share live dashboards.

## Granting permissions for Live Dashboards <a href="#gettingstartedwithremoteactions-whatarethepermissionsrequiredtouseremoteactions" id="gettingstartedwithremoteactions-whatarethepermissionsrequiredtouseremoteactions"></a>

{% hint style="info" %}
Refer to the [Roles](/user-guide/administration/account-management/roles.md) documentation for a detailed description of **Permissions**, **View domain** options and [Data privacy](/user-guide/administration/account-management/roles.md#roles-dataprivacy) granularity settings.
{% endhint %}

To enable proper permissions for Live Dashboards as an administrator:

1. Select **Administration >** [Roles](/user-guide/administration/account-management/roles.md) from the main navigation panel.
2. Create a **New Role** or edit an existing role by hovering over it.
3. In the **Permissions** section, scroll down to the **Live Dashboards** section to enable appropriate permissions for the role.

### View domain impact on Live Dashboards permissions <a href="#amplify-dataprivacysettingsforamplify" id="amplify-dataprivacysettingsforamplify"></a>

The table below shows what users with full and limited [View domain](/user-guide/administration/account-management/roles.md#roles-viewdomain) access can do, assuming the necessary permissions are enabled.

| Permission            | Full access                                                                                                                                                                                                                            | Limited access                                                                                                                                                                                                                         |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nexthink.com/user-guide/live-dashboards/getting-started-with-live-dashboards.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
