# AI adoption goals

Track and achieve **AI adoption goals** by measuring AI usage against defined targets.

<figure><img src="https://268444917-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxJSUDk9NTtCHYPG5EWs3%2Fuploads%2FiFRlrzKqYJXYx6zNWyAC%2F2026.8_AI_drive_adotpion_goals_73_Tf9Mp1.png?alt=media&amp;token=3c5e858f-e253-447d-86f6-b5d52c67d5ab" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Nexthink **AI adoption goals** enables you to:

* Define an adoption goal, company-wide or for a specific team or tool.
* Track adoption progress across the organization in real time, in one place, instead of stitching together data from multiple tool consoles and spreadsheets.
* Catch goals falling behind early enough to act, rather than finding out at the end of a reporting period. Identify teams or adoption initiatives that require attention.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If **AI adoption goals** shows missing or incomplete data, your Nexthink administrator should verify and validate [AI Tools requirements](/user-guide/ai-tools/setting-up-and-managing-ai-tools.md#before-you-begin).
{% endhint %}

## Creating AI adoption goals

From the **New goal** configuration popup:

1. Click the **New goal** button from the **Goals** panel.
2. Determine path: **Start from scratch** to define every goal setting yourself, or choose existing configuration templates.

<details>

<summary>Goal configuration templates</summary>

When configuring new goals, you may use existing configuration templates.

{% hint style="info" %}
You may **Edit** an existing goal by accessing the action menu (⋮) of the specific goal listed in the **Goals** panel.

Editing the target, population, or monitored tools of an ongoing adoption goal recalculates its progress automatically. This recalculation is retroactive when the goal start date is in the past.
{% endhint %}

3. Enter a goal **Name** and, optionally, a **Description**.
4. Select a **Metric**: **Weekly AI-engaged time**, **Weekly active users**, or **Number of AI interactions**. Refer to [Monitoring AI Tools](/user-guide/ai-tools/working-with-ai-tools.md#estimation-of-ai-engaged-time-per-employee) for metric details.
5. Set the thresholds shown for the selected metric. For example, for **Weekly active users**, set how many days per week employees must use AI tools and what percentage of the target population counts as goal achievement.
6. In the **For** dropdown, select **All tools** to apply the goal across every monitored tool, or select specific **Monitored AI tools**. You can pick as many as you need. You can only select tools already configured in Nexthink for adoption monitoring. Refer to [Configuring AI tools](/user-guide/ai-tools/setting-up-and-managing-ai-tools/configuring-ai-tools.md) for tool settings.

7. Under **Target employees**, select **All employees** or **Specific groups**.\
   **Specific-group** options require **user organization fields** configured in Nexthink. Contact your Nexthink administrator to [configure user organization fields](/user-guide/administration/system-configuration/data-management/environment/product-configuration.md#configuring-user-organization).
8. Under **Timeline**, set a start and end date.

{% hint style="info" %}
For a **weekly** goal, the calendar picker only lets you select complete weeks. For a **monthly** goal, it only lets you select complete months.
{% endhint %}

## Reviewing adoption goals

**AI adoption goals** lists all configured adoption objectives, alongside their progress and context.

Goals cascade from company-wide targets down to specific business units and teams, so you can track adoption at the level that matters to you.

From the **Goals** panel, on the left:

* Check how many goals are active and how many have reached their target.
* Review goal-specific metrics, target populations, monitored tools, and timeline from its goal card.
* Open the action menu (⋮) on a goal card, then click **Edit**, **Mark as reached**, or **Clear tag**. Refer to [#creating-ai-adoption-goals](#creating-ai-adoption-goals "mention") for goal edits.

{% hint style="info" %}
The system includes an active adoption goal out of the box: **Increase weekly AI usage across all employees**.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://268444917-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxJSUDk9NTtCHYPG5EWs3%2Fuploads%2Fz6LOMcfSvUIOtcEGczSE%2F2026.8_AI_drive_adotpion_goals_78_Sk1Wf9.png?alt=media&amp;token=abd36423-022e-464a-849c-0defee548bb8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

From the **Goal progress** panel, on the right:

* Review the progress chart, plotted against goal target (in percentage) across the defined timeline. You may hover over a point on the chart to see the progress for that period.

<figure><img src="https://268444917-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxJSUDk9NTtCHYPG5EWs3%2Fuploads%2Fwv5MV1RZfkMfu7nd75iz%2F2026.8_AI_drive_adotpion_goals_79_Hx5Jq7.png?alt=media&amp;token=99b806e6-5164-46bd-ac70-91feea731e4e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

From the **Adoption progress by** panel, break down adoption progress by teams and employee groups specific to your **Organization** structure.

* Compare each group adoption rate when the goal started against **Today**, visualized as a two-bar chart.
* Hover over a bar to see the change in adoption rate **between the start of the goal and today.** For example, **+25%**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Organization** breakdowns require **user organization fields** configured in Nexthink. Contact your Nexthink administrator to [configure user organization fields](/user-guide/administration/system-configuration/data-management/environment/product-configuration.md#configuring-user-organization).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nexthink.com/user-guide/ai-tools/working-with-ai-tools/ai-adoption-goals.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
