# Deploying on iOS and iPadOS devices

This guide explains how to deploy the Nexthink Mobile app for iOS and iPadOS devices in Intune. It is intended for IT administrators responsible for device management and Nexthink onboarding, and it assumes familiarity with iOS and iPadOS device management concepts and with administering Intune.

***

## Before you begin

Before starting the deployment, ensure to meet the following requirements:

* Target devices are supervised and enrolled in Intune.
* Target devices have access to Apple App Store.
* Download and configure the `Nexthink Mobile Device Configuration Profile.xml` file as described in [Nexthink Mobile device configuration profile for iOS and iPadOS](https://edocs.nexthink.com/nexthink-infinity/infinity-specifications/nexthink-mobile-app-configuration-profile-ios) documentation.
* Create an installation token as described in the [Creating an installation token](/platform/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/connecting-mobile-devices-to-nexthink/creating-an-installation-token.md) documentation.

## Adding the Nexthink Mobile app

Perform the following steps to add Nexthink Mobile to Intune to prepare it for deployment.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Select **Apps > iOS/iPadOS > Create**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
For **App type**, select **iOS store app**:

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the iOS Store, go to the **Search the App Store**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Search for the keyword "Nexthink Mobile" and install the app from the search result:

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Configure the following **App information**:

* Set the **Minimum operating system**: 17.0
* Choose the **Applicable device type**:
  * iPad
  * iPhone and iPod

<figure><img src="/files/wi5lzImQf35oQI80FOMm" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Assign the application to the applicable mobile device groups:

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select **Next**, then select **Create** to finalize the app creation:

## Creating a custom device configuration profile

Create a custom device configuration profile and assign it to your Entra ID groups by following the steps below.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Intune supports only one device-wide content filter per device. Before you deploy the Nexthink Mobile content filter, confirm that no other content filter is already deployed.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
In Intune, go to **Devices > iOS/iPadOS > Configuration**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select **Create > New Policy** and set the following values:

* **Platform**: iOS/iPadOS
* **Profile type**: Templates
* **Template name**: Custom

Click **Create**.

<figure><img src="/files/gJhDT245ptWj1Dx3tQhR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Add a meaningful name for the template and select **Next**:

<figure><img src="/files/ohRfFcgraydg3VbR8e3m" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Add a meaningful name for the profile and upload the configuration XML file that you have obtained from [Nexthink Mobile app configuration profile (iOS)](https://edocs.nexthink.com/nexthink-infinity/infinity-specifications/nexthink-mobile-app-configuration-profile-ios):

<figure><img src="/files/FoqYJcyV2qkE4Ag5pFme" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Confirm the correct values in the configuration file according to the [Nexthink Mobile device configuration profile for iOS and iPadOS](https://edocs.nexthink.com/nexthink-infinity/infinity-specifications/nexthink-mobile-app-configuration-profile-ios) documentation. Select **Next**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Assign the policy to the applicable mobile device groups. Once done, select **Next**, and then **Create** the profile:

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Verifying onboarding and data collection

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Verify configuration on the device

Confirm the configuration file is running correctly as described in the [Nexthink Mobile device configuration profile for iOS and iPadOS](https://edocs.nexthink.com/nexthink-infinity/infinity-specifications/nexthink-mobile-app-configuration-profile-ios) documentation.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Verify device visibility in Nexthink

In Nexthink, confirm that the device is reporting data by running the following investigation:

{% code overflow="wrap" %}

```sql
mobile_devices during past 1h
| where mobile_device.uid in ["<app-uid>"]
| list mobile_device.name, mobile_device.hardware.model, mobile_device.operating_system.name, mobile_device.uid, mobile_device.primary_user_upn
```

{% endcode %}

If the device appears in the query results, the onboarding is successful:

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Configuring Nexthink Mobile on client devices (optional)

If needed, see the [Configuring Nexthink Mobile on user devices](/platform/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/connecting-mobile-devices-to-nexthink/configuring-on-client-devices.md) documentation to learn how to configure Nexthink Mobile on client devices.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.nexthink.com/platform/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/connecting-mobile-devices-to-nexthink/deploying-nexthink-mobile-in-intune/nexthink-mobile-for-ios.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
