# Search

{% hint style="info" %}
For AI-powered analysis, natural language questions, and conversations about your environment, Search redirects you to [Workspace](/user-guide/search-and-workspace.md) to provide the answer.
{% endhint %}

Search helps you quickly locate objects in your Nexthink environment, such as devices, users, binaries, packages, applications, ports, and destinations.

{% hint style="info" %}
Search requires the **Create private investigations; use global search** permission. Refer to [Roles](/user-guide/administration/account-management/roles.md) for more information.
{% endhint %}

## Accessing Search

Navigate to the main menu and select **Search**.

## What you can find with Search

Search across various parameters to efficiently locate specific information.

To find users, binaries, devices, packages, or applications, type the first letters of the name.

<figure><img src="https://268444917-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxJSUDk9NTtCHYPG5EWs3%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-3d6568276edc79f626077a482b8676b81c299913%2Fimage.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To find ports, type the port number.

<figure><img src="https://268444917-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxJSUDk9NTtCHYPG5EWs3%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-60a574353c77d1a18b67c97784056c992e9a4667%2Fimage.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To find destinations, type the domain, for example, `google.com`.

<figure><img src="https://268444917-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FxJSUDk9NTtCHYPG5EWs3%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-18a8d0af1478af706ccfc5d200ba343fa5eebf0f%2Fimage.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Use the action menu on any result for binaries, devices, packages, destinations, or users. This lets you navigate to the related investigation or dashboard, or select **AI analysis** to continue investigating the result in Workspace.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nexthink.com/getting-started/navigating-the-web-interface/search.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
