# Installing Collector on a single device

Install Collector on a single device to verify that your configuration is correct and the connection to your Nexthink instance is working before deploying it across all devices.

Select the method matching the installer file type you chose in [Obtaining Collector](/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/deploying-nexthink-in-non-vdi-environment/installing-collector/installing-collector-on-windows/obtaining-collector.md).

## Nexthink Collector Installer method

Run the installer executable `NEXThink_Collector<Nexthink_Experience_FQDN>.exe` generated during [Configuring Collector for endpoint devices](/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/deploying-nexthink-in-non-vdi-environment/installing-collector/installing-collector-on-windows/configuring-collector-for-endpoint-devices.md). Follow the on-screen guidance.

## Windows Installer method

The Windows Installer provides an interactive installation method and a silent CLI method.

{% tab title="Silent CLI installation" %}
Install Collector in silent mode using `msiexec.exe`, which comes pre-installed on all Windows devices.

{% hint style="info" %}
You must provide custom parameters directly in the CLI. The system does not save them from one installation to another.
{% endhint %}

The following parameters are mandatory:

| Parameter  | Description                                |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------ |
| `DRV_IP` | The FQDN of your Nexthink instance. |
| `CRD_PORT` | `443`                                      |
| `CRD_KEY` | The customer key of the Nexthink instance. |

**Example — unattended installation:**

Run the following command in the CLI, replacing `<Your_Key>` with the actual value:

```powershell
msiexec.exe /qn /i Nexthink_Collector.msi DRV_IP=nxdocs.eu.nexthink.cloud CRD_PORT=443 CRD_KEY=<Your_Key> REBOOT=ReallySuppress
```

Wait for the installation to complete.

The MSI installs on any Windows device type, including laptops, desktops, and servers. For all available options, refer to [Collector MSI parameters reference table](/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/deploying-nexthink-in-non-vdi-environment/installing-collector/windows-collector-references/collector-msi-parameters-reference-table.md) and the Microsoft documentation about [Windows Installer command-line options](http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa367988.aspx).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.nexthink.com/configuring_nexthink/bringing-data-into-your-nexthink-instance/deploying-nexthink-in-non-vdi-environment/installing-collector/installing-collector-on-windows/installing-collector-on-a-single-device.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
